Sylvie, Home Organizing, Styling & Everyday Living

I can’t say I just woke up one day and decided to be organized. It wasn’t some magical moment. Being organized had always come naturally to me. Looking back, it followed me through most of my working life.

But then came a ten-year stretch that changed everything.

The Life Experiences That Led Me to Home Organizing

During that time, we moved five times. I was hospitalized with a serious illness, my husband’s longtime employer folded, and he made a major career shift that required us to move out of province. Our child was diagnosed with a complex chronic health condition. This meant countless appointments from Cancer Care, to specialists outside of Canada. All the while, I was working full-time in a growing leadership role at a small health food store chain.

I know I’m not the first person to go through a storm. Life happens. But in those years, it felt like everything was hitting at once. And then my husband was involved in a serious accident at work. That was the tipping point.

I realized I couldn’t keep going like this. I couldn’t control the chaos around me, but when I looked at our home, at the storage room, the garage, the clutter left behind from move after move, I realized this was something I could control.

That’s where home organizing came in.

The shift didn’t happen overnight. I left my full-time job because I simply couldn’t keep putting out fires and still show up for work. But as I slowly began working through the spaces in our home, I realized that this strength of mine, this ability to bring order to chaos, could actually be a business.

Looking back, there was a common thread running through every job I’d ever had. Despite all the moves, the upheaval, and the accumulation of things that came with those years, I was always a master of efficiency. I had a knack for figuring out how to make things work better, streamline processes, and get the most out of what I had. I think that’s what gave me an edge in home organizing. It wasn’t just about making a space look tidy; it was about making it function well.

And I began to realize that I wasn’t the only woman longing for a little calm in the midst of life’s chaos.

From Professional Home Organizing to a New Chapter

For six years, I ran a professional home organizing business, helping clients transform more than 300 spaces. From closets and kitchens to pantries, storage rooms, and garages, I learned that effective home organization isn’t about having a picture-perfect house. It’s about creating practical systems that make everyday life easier.

The best home organizing solutions weren’t necessarily the prettiest or the most elaborate. They were the ones that worked for the people living in those spaces.

For me, organizing has always been a way to feel grounded, even when life is anything but. Now that my kids are grown, I find myself in a different season of life. I’m less interested in chasing the next big thing and more interested in making the most of the life and home I have right now.

I still believe a well-organized home can make an enormous difference, but I also know that the way I organize my home may not always be realistic for the average working woman.

I still want her to know that it is possible to live better. No, you don’t need to stack your forks perfectly. But you can make your storage room, your freezer, your garage, your closet, even your office, work better for you. Sometimes it’s about creating a simple organizing system. Sometimes it’s about rethinking a space, finding a more useful solution, or simply letting go of the idea that everything has to be perfect.

What You’ll Find Here

After stepping back from the hands-on side of my home organizing business for health reasons, I found myself drawn to a different way of sharing what I’ve learned.

Through my YouTube channel I share practical home organizing tips, home styling ideas, home improvement projects, gardening, and useful finds that make everyday living a little easier.

You’ll find realistic ways to organize your home, make better use of your storage, create functional and inviting spaces, and make thoughtful choices about what you bring into your home. I’ll share projects from my own home, lessons learned along the way, and ideas worth considering, whether you’re refreshing a room, tackling an overflowing closet, or simply looking for ways to enjoy your home a little more.

This chapter isn’t about creating a picture-perfect home or constantly buying more to get it right. It’s about settling into home life, making thoughtful choices, and creating spaces that work for the life you’re living now. It’s about enjoying what you have, making changes where they matter, and finding a little more ease in the everyday.

A Home That Works for the Life You’re Living

I often think about something Dawn Madsen, The Minimal Mom, once said: “Your home is not a reflection of you, but the season that you just came through.” Those words have stayed with me because they take the shame out of clutter. A messy garage doesn’t mean you’re lazy; an overstuffed closet doesn’t mean you’re failing. It might just mean you’ve weathered a hard season, and your home is simply showing the aftermath.

The beauty is that seasons change, and with them, so can your home.

I’m glad you’re here. I hope you’ll find something along the way that helps you make your home function a little better, enjoy it a little more, and feel more at home in this season of your life.
